A Vi Ra Hum Kham Villa

Imagine walking on a narrow path through ricefields, green and serene. You pass friendly Balinese men, women, children, an indifferent dog or two, perhaps even a cow. Then in the midst of this quiet ageless landscape you find a gate between flowering plants. You enter.

A curving path takes you through a garden of earthly delights - palm and flowering frangipani trees, a variety of bougainvillea and other blossoms, stone sculptures, lanterns. A small wooden structure like no gazebo you've ever seen rises to the left: a grass-thatched former rice-storage house with an open upper landing invites to climb up to sit and sip and survey the surrounding fields.

The main house in the middle of the compound, with yet more gardens and a pool of koi beyond, is appointed with all the modern conveniences of any luxury hotel. Yet it remains a Balinese house, a duplex with room for two guests upstairs, and two more downstairs. Carved wooden pillars, the beautiful details of a ceiling of bamboo and grass, the warmth of wood floors, sitting and sleeping areas where you can dream. The views from all four sides are unbeatable, even including, to the east, the silhouette of majestic Mt. Agung on a clear morning - a good reason to wake up early to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of another day in Bali.

This typical Balinese villa is located near Ubud and is perfect for a very quiet and relaxed vacation in the middle of ricefields – if you don't mind the 10-minute walk to reach your vacation home as there is currently no car access.

Location
This villa is tucked away in the village of Penestanan near Tjampuhan, Ubud. It is set in a walled garden with a free-form swimming pool in the middle of ricefields and is a perfect retreat for those who appreciate nature, informality and privacy.

This villa is really located away from the tourist crowds – you have to walk 10 minutes from the parking area at the main road via a narrow concrete path to reach this Villa (motorbike transport can be provided if required).

A 10 minutes drive brings you to the artists center of Ubud with its many art galleries and museums (e.g. Antonio Blanco, Agung Rai & Neka museums), numerous shops and excellent restaurants such as Mozaic and Lamak etc., daily Balinese dance performances, frequent other cultural events and temple festivals.

White water rafting on the Ayung river starts close-by, and the nearest beaches are only 30 minutes away. It's about 40 minutes to Sanur or Denpasar, and about one hour to Bali's international airport, Kuta and Legian.

The Villa
Completed in 2002 it features a traditional thatched roof, carved wooden pillars and large glass windows to take full advantage of the spectacular view. Although Balinese in design, the villa is equipped with modern amenities to make your stay comfortable.

From the villa gate, you walk through a walled garden with tropical flowers, a two-level balé (open pavilion) and a fish pond. The two-storey main house accommodates an open reception/living area facing the entrance/main gate, two bedrooms and a small kitchen.

In the back of the house there is the free-form swimming pool with deck chairs and another two-storey balé with an open dining area on the ground floor accommodating up to 6 persons and a open-air living area above overlooking the ricefields. A separate building nearby accommodates a guest toilet.

The Bedrooms
The master bedroom on the ground floor has a kind-size bed. The second (up-stairs) bedroom is accessed via a staircase from the master bedroom and has twin-beds. Each bedroom has air-conditioning, a ceiling fan, satellite television, a safe, a bathroom with bathtub and a separate toilet.

The master bedroom opens up to a small terrace with deck chairs and overlooks the garden, swimming pool and ricefields. The second bedroom features a spacious balcony and glass windows with 360° view of the surroundings.

Kitchen & Services
A small and very simple kitchen is located on the ground floor next to the open reception area and equipped with a stove, two refrigerators, water-heater, blender, glasses, crockery and cutlery, etc.

The full-time house staff includes a cook to prepare delicious meals, a maid to clean the premises and handle your laundry, a gardener and a security guard. All staff members wear uniform and name tags to make identification easy.

Your air-conditioned car with a reliable driver is available up to 8 hours per day for excursions throughout the island or just to go shopping or for a meal in nearby Ubud.

   All rates are net, quoted in USD and inclusive of applicable government tax, service charge, full-time cook, maid, gardener and security guard, free in-house laundry, free air-conditioned car with driver (8 hours per day), return airport transfers and daily breakfast for 4 persons.
2. High & Peak Season Periods
   High season period: July 1 - August 31 and Easter Week. Peak season period: December 20 - January 8.
